Competition was tough going up against Bovey Castle and St Mellion.  Bowood was the only hotel in Wiltshire that was put forward for the award.

Comments from the judges were excellent the main one being 'Bowood is a unique and most attractive 'destination' property.  The hotel and its facilities are well designed and beautifully presented in a contemporary, yet comfortable feel'

The next stage of the 2011/12 South West Tourism Excellence Awards comes with the designations of the ‘Gold, ‘Silver’ and ‘Bronze‘ titles for each of the three candidates. These announcements will be made on Monday 6th February.

The South West Tourism Excellence Awards are the ‘official’ tourism awards for the region, linking closely with the awards in Cornwall, Devon and Bristol as well as forming the regional heat of the national VisitEngland awards.

Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort was one of 350 entries submitted for the 2011/12 South West Tourism Excellence Awards. 

Named a winner in the “Large Hotel of the Year” category alongside Devon’s Bovey Castle and Cornwall’s St. Mellion International Resort, the 43 bedroom Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in May 2009. 

On learning of Bowood’s success to date in the 2011/12 South West Tourism Excellence Awards, Lord Lansdowne commented, “This is really wonderful news to hear that Bowood Hotel has been named one of three ‘Large Hotel of the Year’ winners and to be included alongside a great number of businesses and organisations who contribute so energetically towards tourism in the South West and to the region’s economy. These have been tough times for us all and recognition such as this is highly motivating.
