Hotel Testimonials

Mr B. Ford, 12th May 2013
"Thank you for your email. Yes, the event was a great success and everyone both enjoyed it and was full of praise for Bowood. I really appreciate the efforts of you and the team to make it run so very well. Please pass on my thanks to all especially Hansi & Katie, but in reality everyone did a great job from the friendliness & helpfulness of the Proshop through to the hard pressed Brasserie staff.

I was really pleased with the fact that everyone I came across seemed to know all about the event and the parts of it (lunch, drinks, dinner etc) it meant that on the day(s) I didn't have any further explaining to do which meant that someone had briefed everybody which was great teamwork and consequently hugely easier for me. Outstanding job for that. All of the bits that could have been problems worked out fine - no comments from anyone on the bills/admin etc either.

The food at dinner was very well received, excellent quality & good service (Katies cards to get the right food to people were positively commented on as a great idea). Definitely worth the money and people were very positive about it. Similarly I heard nothing but good words about the rooms too. I would be amazed if several who were there did not come back on their own and as I said I had not one negative comment from anyone and several saying it was one of our best events in recent times.

Do please pass on my sincere thanks to all - it was very much appreciated by all and a great week-end. Faultless."

Mr C. Moody, 5th-7th September 2012
'I wanted to quickly drop you a note to thank you and the team in the hotel and golf club for a fabulous couple of days.
I was fortunate enough to be one of the lucky golfers who have just taken part in the 2012 Audi Quattro Cup, held at Bowood.  The course and the golf was a delight, but I really wanted to pay special thanks to the Bowood team as a whole.  From the moment I arrived on Wednesday to sadly leaving this morning, your team made my stay a once in a lifetime experience.  They were all so friendly, so efficient, and nothing was too much trouble.  Whilst they were all tremendous, I did want to single out two of the team....Linsey in the Brasserie and Sam in the Shelburne. Thanks once again for a 5 star stay, and I look forward to visiting Bowood again.'

Mrs P. Chalmers, 30th August 2012
Please thank everyone for making our stay so enjoyable. We had some delicious meals in the Shelburne restaurant. Thank you to the chefs, the bar staff, and Amanda who is a great asset to you .Thank you also to the housekeeping staff, probably often forgotten, who always made sure our room was immaculate and all our needs were catered for.
We hope to return to Bowood in the next few months, thank you again.

Mrs S. Causton, 7th August 2012
I have just returned from a lovely stay at your hotel and I just had to let you know how perfect our stay was at your luxurious hotel!Your beautiful hotel and grounds are just stunning!

A massive thank you and recognition to everyone at Bowood!
From the friendly receptionist, to the quick and curituoius bar and restaurant staff. To the amazing chefs, who helped us certainly pile on a few pounds. To the chambermaids, who kept all the hotel including our room, spotless. To the leisure centre staff who helped us unwind in a beautifully clean swimming pool and spa area. To the ground staff, who made the view every morning when opening our curtains breathless. To the person who thought all all the little extras throughout the hotel, that made the experience, a little bit more special.( ie, pin cushion sewing kit, extra pillows in room, iron, perfumed pouch in wardrobe, home made biscuits, hot chocolate and herbal tea. Hairspray etc in the communal restrooms, use of wellington boots, books, children's areas etc etc.) I could go on and on. Will certainly stay at Bowood, again!

Mr and Mrs Arrowsmith, 17th July 2012

This is the second time we have stayed at Bowood. First time round we had a great stay in the hotel, this time we thought we would be more adventurous and book 3 nights in Queenwood lodge and what a great decision it proved to be! A picturesque building and setting, nestling in the heart of the golf course and a 5 minute walk from the hotel itself. The lodge is a relaxing place to stay and you immediately feel comfortable in the 'country chic' layout and furnishings. Big comfy sofas, television room, sitting room, family kitched, dining room...etc.

We stayed at Bowood as it was close to a Summer Garden party we were attending and had been recommended. The drive through the grounds to Bowood House is lovely, especially on a sunny day. We had booked a suite to spoil ourselves. Upon arrival the staff were very helpful and friendly. We reached our room which was very nice but honestly, I would not call it a suite. It was nice and roomy and had a seating area and also a nice large TV. We overlooked the golf course, which had a lovely view. The bathroom was amazing. I have never seen so many amenities. There was a large bath, two sinks and the biggest shower room you would ever need. The towels were light and fluffy and the place looked spotless. We had breakfast in our room on the Sunday, which was a good idea, as the Hotel was full. Breakfast was absolutely lovely. Would I stay at Bowood again - a definite yes.

Barbaramayscott, London, 3rd July 2012, “Fantastic service, a real haven” Tripadvisor
My partner and `I spent one night at Bowood - we got a great deal on Secret Escapes. We had a lovely room overlooking the grounds that was very well appointed. Little touches such as home made cookies, Tea Pig teas, real coffee and a proper pin cushion with needle and thread.
We ate in the main restaurant and the food was delicious. It is not cheap but is very good quality. One moan, I would have liked to see linen tablecloths on the tables in the evening.
We also spent some time around the pool and used the sauna and steam. It is not really a spa proper but the pool was excellent. Whilst I was in the steam room I met a regular who uses the pool and has treatments. She was disabled but came regularly because she said they treated her like a queen and gave great treatments.
We asked to check out an hour later and it was no problem. All in all a great experience.

Recently returned from this fabulous hotel..The staff were very welcoming and could not do enough to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was immaculate.. possibly the best shower in the U.K.! If you enjoy fine food the Shelbourne restaurant is a must... absolutely faultless service and food.
My golf was not too good but the golf course was in perfect order and a great challenge.
We cannot wait to return - many thanks

My boyfriend and I decided to book a last minute night get away. Not living to far from Bowood we thought we would go there, also because we got a very very good last minute deal online.

What an amazing hotel! right from the minute go we was impressed with the facilites, staff and just the overall atmosphere. The check in staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room was simply outstanding! Finished to a very high standard. Very spacious and equipted with everything! teas and coffees of all types, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, all the usual showering stuff, Robes, slippers, shoe polish, even fresh milk was available! the room was so homely and pleasent.
We tried out the spa facitlies which also... To see more Click Here

We have just stayed here for 3 days and I played the golf course twice. Excellent practice facilities and the course we immaculate. The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful. The golf staff were very nice too. We ate in the brassiere but can't comment on the hotel restaurant. I also played a round with one of the members, who was very nice aswell, and no hassle in using any of their facilities. The course is quite long but I rented one of the many buggies. Very nice place.

Morris47, Cwmbran, UK “Consistently first class”
Probably 4th time we`ve stayed. This is a lovely hotel with such a relaxing ambience. The hotel is still as well presented as ever, it does not look tired or in need of tlc which is often my experience when revisiting. I must say that it looked as good as ever and is a tribute to owners and staff. Rooms at back are in my opinion preferential as they have nice views over the grounds. Some other reviewers mention balcony rooms which are probably nice but really worth the extra if you have the weather to leave doors open and access the balcony.
Great hotel, great staff, lovely relaxing experience. Family friendly swimming times are more limited than most hotels but more than made up by free access to Bowood House which is lovely and also has an excellent children’s outdoor play activity area which is free to hotel guests. Summary, consistently first class. If only all hotels were as consistently good.

Taylor_Nicki, Cookham, 16th May 2012, “Simply fabulous!” Tripadvisor
We have been to this hotel twice this year, once in Winter and once in Spring. Both experiences were wonderful. We travelled with our 2 young children. Rooms are spacious, with extras you'd expect in a 5 star hotel - fluffy robes, slippers etc - and that included the children too! It is clean, spotless with soft, stylish decor. Staff are super helpful. The pool area nice. The main restaurant is great for a grown up meal. Children are best eating in the golf club bistro or in the library. The kids menu at approx. £5.50 for 2 course is great value. More choice would be good but if you ask they can often cater for something different off the bistro menu. In summer take a complimentary golf buggy ride over to the adventure playground, which is simply incredible for those aged between approx. 4 and 12 years. Really challenging and fun, but also safe. Younger kids are catered too with smaller equipment and a soft play area (didn't check that out). All in all a real gem of a hotel which manages to be both child friendly whilst still feeling luxurious and 'grown up'. Great whether you go with or without the children. We will be back!

Clivem, Oxford, 27th April 2012, 'Excellent Quality and Helpful Staff'. Tripadvisor
We wanted an easy night away at a really good quality hotel after a couple of disappointments at places on the south coast and Bowood Hotel delivered. I should say through sheer luck the hotel was not particularily busy when we visited so my comments should be taken with that in mind.
It is clear a significant amount of thought, and investment, has gone into the presentation, fixtures and fittings of the bedrooms. The rooms are of a reasonable size are light and comfortable with nice touches like the MP3 compatible radio and welcome tray with freshly baked cookies and free spa water. There is a proper feel about everything. Soon after arriving fresh ice was delivered to the room without requesting it and i think i am right in saying the same lady arrived later to offer a turn down. (These little touches continue throughout the hotel such as the availability of fruit and plenty of newspapers and current magazines around.) The bathrooms link with the spa theme, are a high quality and well equipped.
We spent most of the day in the hotel as the weather was poor. We concluded a visit to the spa was probably worth the effort. The Gym is first class and has a fabulous view through the wall to ceiling windows. The pool area is on par with most spa offerings; great for a short period of relaxation but not a place to keep children entertained for any particular time. The scented showers are fun. Probably worth mentioning there is limited pool access for children and it might struggle to accomodate full occupancy.
Afternoon tea and cake is done well in the lounge, and good value. We ate dinner at the Golf Club as we thought it more appealing to our young daughter. It was exactly as we hoped; a club feel with a relatively simple menu and great service. Breakfast was the normal offering with no complaints.
We had a great time and have re booked for later in the year. This is a relativley small hotel and, on the day we visited, as good as any. I have a tiny reservation and am keen to learn how it would fair when it is full.

Ginge1966, London, 26/04/2012, “Perfect for short break with young kids” Tripadvisor
We wanted to find a hotel where we could take our 2 and 5 year old boys, with a pool, spa and enough space for us all in one room, for a short break. Although Bowood tries to juggle between the conflicting requirements of golfers, families and couples it does so well. We had an excellent room, very well appointed and of a good size, with a huge bathroom. There were some lovely touches for the kids on arrival, and a games room just down the corridor with puzzles, board games and a Nintendo - perfect for early morning entertainment for young ones. The hotel is a stone's throw from Bowood House and its fabulous adventure playground: as guests, we enjoyed free entry and took advantage of it on 3 separate occasions such was its draw for our boys. The breakfasts were extremely good, setting one up for the rest of the day and dinner in the 'fine dining' restaurant was also of a high standard. The wine list was comprehensive and not by any means over priced. Service was also friendly, and not at all stuffy. There is also a brasserie at the Golf Club where we ate a couple of times with the kids; the menu was limited but the food of a good standard, and again, not over-priced. All in all, we enjoyed an excellent break, in spite of the indifferent weather, and would thoroughly recommend it to other parents looking to balance the demands of young children with some more grown up comforts.

Janet H, Darlington, UK. 15/04/2012 “Safe Haven” Tripadvisor
Last minute booking, stayed with my daughter and our two young grandchildren. Very clean, well equipped, stayed in a room with King size bed. Travel cot and bedding provided plus a small toddler bed for the toddler. Everything you need in the room. Spacious, light. Could not fault anything. Because it was children's half term a play room had been provided which came in very handy, story time by the fire with hot chocolate was enjoyed by our five year old. Also a movie and popcorn if wanted.
Food was really good, lots of options of what and were to eat. special dietary requirements catered for. All staff are smartly dressed, friendly, knowledgeable and well trained in all areas of the hotel, it is well worth a stay. Nothing was too much when asked for. Library had a real fire also area opposite reception did. Lifts are very useful. We were on the third floor, rear room, watched the golfers playing and listened and watched the ducks on the small lake.
Use of the pool, sauna and gym are very welcoming, special family times so the children can enjoy a splash around, could have been a little bit warmer. Spa treatments are available if required at a competitive price. Also included with your stay is free admission to Bowood? House and gardens, well worth a visit, super adventure playground for the young ones, out of this world. Weather permitting take a picnic and stay a few hours.

Mr A. Robertson, 13/04/2012
We came back home today after a week at Bowood, we are not golfers and did not feel pressured into golf, instead we had a relaxing and enjoyable stay with very nice polite accommodating staff who were always more than helpful, the rooms were constantly kept clean, and we really enjoyed our stay there and will definitely recommend it to friends and others, a big big thank you to every member of staff at the hotel for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at Bowood.

Glen 32, Bracknell, UK.  04/04/2012 “Perfect Stay”
My wife and I stayed here for 1 night to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary in March 2012. I knew it'll be nice when I booked it but once we arrived we were both so happy being here! Such a high standard of service and quality, our double balcony room was spacious although the balcony was tiny! The grounds were well kept and vast and the spa was really relaxing. Would come back again.

Mr R. Harrison, 02/04/2012
Everything you did for us was first class and you made my stay, and the stay of our friends one to remember, from the wonderful room, to the surprise guests and wonderful little touches you put in place. Thank you so very much.
I would also be grateful if you would pass on my thanks to all your team members I came into contact with. The barmen, room service, waitresses, the girls in house keeping and the young ladies at reception were not only all extremely professional and welcoming, but  polite and caring . Nothing was too much trouble. To achieve all this and still maintain a relaxed air is something I have not experienced in any of the many hotels I have stayed in around the world. The hotel should be very proud of all its staff and the way they perform.
Thank you to you all. Wonderful hotel, wonderful people made it a wonderful stay.

Louise G, Stafford, UK.  26/03/2012 “Fantastic Hotel”
We stayed here for one night in March 2012 and can highly recommend this hotel . We had a balcony room which was beautiful; the attention to detail was incredible but what really made this hotel special was the staff. Every single member of staff from the reception, restaurant, bistro, spa and housekeeping were courteous, friendly and efficient. The hotel decor is a little 'gentlemans club' for my liking, I prefer a few more feminine touches but the room was immaculate, we really didn't want for anything. A wonderful break.

A Winter, Ashtead, March 2012, “AMAZING”
The stay was fantastic: the hotel and grounds were lovely, the food wonderful and the staff made everything perfect! 100% customer satisfaction.

P Bookey, Edgbaston, Birmingham, March 2012
Lovely decor, attentive staff, wish we'd stayed longer ! Great breakfast sausages. Couldn't/ wouldn't have paid more than the special offer though.

James_Lincoln, Nottingham, UK. 19/03/2012 “A True Relaxing Weekend”
My partner and I stayed here in March. We only stayed for the one night. Which is a shame as we wish we has stayed much longer... The complex is set back and surrounded by the golf course. The property boasts a lovely reception and dining room.
We had a luxury double with Balcony. Unfortunately we requested to move owing to a crying baby next door. The reception was very catering and moved us almost straight away to an available room. Note the walls on the rooms did appear not very sound proof.
The gym is adequate and has the basic equipment you would expect. The pool, sauna, steam and aromatherapy showers are lovely and well kept. I suggest if anyone wants a treatment you book well in advance at the time of booking.
We ate in the restaurant on the evening and the food was lovely and just the right portion. We were sat very close to another table even though the room was pretty empty, but this was no major issue and we never mentioned anything. The drinks are pricey but this is to be expected. Vodka and mixer £10.50... (50ml)
The breakfast is yummy and I thoroughly enjoyed my omelette in the morning and my partner her full english...
A lovely time had by both with just a shame we could not fit in a treatment. Will definitely consider again.

Neil-Traveller, UK. 18/03/2012 “Well worth a visit”
Everything about this hotel and golf course was first rate. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed, and the golf course was a fair challenge for all levels.
Good food, relaxing spa, and wild deer in the grounds............... we will be back!!

Smudge61, 12/02/2012, “Fab”
Wonderful professional staff, fantastic grounds, just as it is on the website. We did get a late booking otherwise we couldn’t have tried this hotel but it was wonderful, you feel special, spa spotless, breakfast fab all in all the best hotel in the area without a doubt. If you get the chance to go then do. I would be surprised if you were disappointed.

J Bostock, Chester, February 2012, “Brilliant Bowood”.
Each member of staff at Bowood were both warm and attentive; they made my stay very comfortable indeed.
The room was fantastic for the price- there is no negative I can find to state regarding the room.
The food I had was fantastic, as well as the customer service.
The grounds and house are beautiful, and I recommend everyone to stay here.

Bud-Cardiff, Cardiff, 30/01/2012, “Fantastic Short Break”
A fantastic hotel with excellent facilities and service. I have just returned from a 2 night break at the hotel, and could not fault it. The service was excellent throughout from reception, bar staff, restaurant staff, spa staff and the golf pro-shop. It was nice to be in a hotel where the staff were obviously professionally trained and appeared to enjoy their job. They really could not do enough to help you. The grounds are spectacular and the hotel very new and modern, but with a traditional country house feel and decor. Considering the relatively small amount of rooms the facilities were excellent, particularly the spa.
We ate in both restaurants and found the food to be very good, particularly the steakstones in the brasserie. There is also a cracking pub at the top of the (long) driveway with real ale, an open fire and good food. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, and look forward to returning.

Kevane, Edinburgh, 22/01/2012, "Business Trip"
Always a pleasure to visit this hotel all the staff are friendly helpful and the rooms are immaculate always a great nights sleep. For a dining experience would recommend the steak stone in the brasserie. Breakfast in the morning is as good as you get. Whilst there you have to try the spa well kitted and never too busy. Every attention to detail looked after.
