Green Credentials

At Bowood we are proud of our green technology and credentials.  

Bio mass produces 80% of our hot water and heating through Bowood’s renewable resource, wood, and 10,000 trees are planted on the estate to ensure this resource will be there for years to come.  We have a voltage reduction device installed to reduce electricity consumption and LED lights, which mean up to 93% higher efficiency throughout the hotel; this is all linked to light sensors in back and front of house for effective usage management.

We treat all of our waste water and sewage in natural reed plant, have a new, fuel efficient machine park for our Greenkeepers’ reducing consumption of fossil fuels and using electric driven machines, as well as a fleet of electric buggies for our golfer, reducing carbon and noise pollution.

We grow fruit and vegetables in our 4 acre gardens, and have a dedicated cutting garden for flowers, which are displayed in the hotel.  Origin is important to us: given a choice we will always choose local.

When the hotel was built a special lime mortar was used, due to the low impact on the environment, and the Spa has a ‘Green Roof’.  This attention to the environment was recognised when Bowood was shortlisted for its sustainability and environmental design in the 2010 European Hotel Design Awards.
